Beginning anew is never easy and one should not assume that others will make it any easier. That is why you should not try to have your time be controlled by someone else, or else you will lose your grip on it. Not all that much has happened since the last entry but that is about to change. So, let’s leave the busy surroundings of the cookshop and step out on to the street. Sign posts will lead us all the way up to this point. But don‘t worry. From now on, we won’t rely on metaphors anymore – just hard facts.

At the beginning of things… well, no need to go back that far. Yet it could be the beginning of a never-ending story, as Germany’s infamous red tape forced us to go around in circles and fill in countless forms and applications before dealing with tasks of actual importance. In a case like ours, founding a company, there are rules and regulations to be considered. Luckily, the nice people of the administration offices would gladly help. Would but can’t as they’re barely able to understand all the legal stuff themselves, referring instead to the cryptic instructions on their forms and applications. How someone makes a living out of that is beyond us to comprehend.

Decisions

There are moments in life, where decisions have to be made. These are also the moments, that make life worth living. Although, if four brainheads sit down together and work on a project like »Mercenaries 3025«, there are decisions to be made. Best practice for us is to sit around a table in our favourite chinese restaurant and figure it out between »Chicken sweet-and-sour« (21) and »Duck in peanut-sauce« (53).

The city was hot, the air heavy with humidity. As I left my appartment, my first thoughts were of Shanghai. I was on my way to our first meeting, not knowing what was going to happen there, not knowing what the next weeks and months would have in store for me, or indeed, where we were going to meet. The fact that we ended up at a Chinese Restaurant was not merely a zynical allegory of my mind’s – it would be one of countless visits to come.
