Mercenaries 3025 will center around missions. For a mercenary unit, reputation is gained by acquiring the best contracts and completing them with success. But how are those missions generated and how do they fit in the timeline of Mercenaries 3025? Our concept is ambitious and should enable players to immerse in the proceedings of Mercenaries 3025 in very diverse ways.
Aside from automatically generated smaller missions we‘re focusing on story-based missions that are directly linked to global events happening along the timeline of Mercenaries 3025, or to fictional scenarios, the so-called Storylines. The outcome of missions has a direct impact on future events for their Storyline. Indeed, in big Storylines entailing multiple campaigns and missions players might acquire conflicting contracts.
Missions themselves are divided into Events and Modifiers where Events form the cornerstones of the mission—armed encounters—followed by one or more Modifiers. They modify following Events or the final results of the mission based on the outcome of the battle. The right-side figure illustrates the layout of a simple mission.
Similar to Events, missions in a campaign are linked with each other. However, after each mission players can decide whether to pursue the rest of the campaign or to quit. This way the game is able to generate a wide variety of missions and offer players lots of challenge and excitement. By connecting missions and campaigns with an overarching story players can really become a part of Mercenaries 3025.
